The summer 2011 has been very intense for the entire team, with a
participation in Palma Boat Show, the Multihulls Show of La Grande Motte and
the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes.
The construction of a new S2C 55 has just begun in Antalya, Turkey, whilst
detailed studies on the S2C 45 are underway.
Last but not least, numerous potential new owners have had the opportunity
to test-sail the S2C 55 in the most beautiful and spectacular environment:
the Voiles de St. Tropez.

The
S2C 55 at the Voiles de St. Tropez

Isabelle Schreiber, French agent for the S2C catamarans and Juerg Von Ins,
the initiator of the project, have given the opportunity to several
potential new owners to test-sail the boat this fall in the fabulous
environment of the “Voiles de St. Tropez”.
« The weather we’ve had in St. Tropez has given us the ability to prove that
the S2C 55 is an excellent light wind boat”, comments Isabelle Schreiber
with a giggle. The sea was indeed desperately calm during the entire week…
“Joke aside, it is true that this catamaran shows excellent light wind
performances. We hardly ever used the engine whilst on this type of boat you
usually don’t even think of hoisting the sails under ten knots of wind.”

The S2C 55 proved to be an excellent platform to view the prestigious
classic yachts. “The ergonomic of the cockpit, the comfort and the
functionality of the kitchen were particularly appreciated in those
conditions”, declares Schreiber. “However, what I liked most – and many of
our guests underlined it too - is the fact that the S2C 55 is very sensitive
at the helm. I really had the feeling of steering a light and sensitive
yacht despite the fact that there is a washing machine, a fridge, a freezer,
a television and much more inside the cabin …”
The S2C 55 will spend the winter in the lovely harbour of Porquerolles, in
the south of France. People interested can visit and test-sail her until
November.
Sébastien Schmidt: “The new S2C 45 will be more polyvalent”

The work and research goes on on the plans of the new S2C45, following
numerous requests from interested parties. “The concept of the S2C 55
interests a specific type of sailors”, comments her designer Sébastien
Schmidt. “However many of them have been asking us for a shorter version of
the boat, yet with similar characteristics; that’s what we are doing with
the S2C 45.”
As a consequence, the S2C 45 keeps the fundamental features that have made
the success of her « big brother »: the seaworthiness, performance and
comfort as well as the simplicity of use. “It is the ideal boat for a couple
or a family with small children. She is easier to handle with a small crew
and more polyvalent than the S2C 55. Yet she also benefits from the same
level of quality and her performances will be excellent.”
The S2C 45 is also adapted for the northern markets, and can sail through
the locks that are found in Germany, Holland and Norway. “She is as wide as
the locks minus half a meter and two fenders”, specifies Schmidt. “Therefore
7,5 meters wide.”
A hybrid motorisation is also considered although the current experience
isn’t satisfactory enough to adapt this system yet. “We want to adopt such a
system”, comments Schmidt. “Because it is more eco-friendly and silent. But
we are not comfortable enough with it yet, and we prefer to wait for further
developments until we decide to go for it.”
Action in Antalya for the construction of the S2C 55 number 3

Christophe Buholzer, who is in charge of the construction of the S2C yachts
in Antalya, is as enthusiastic as ever when he begins the construction of a
new unit. Two weeks ago, the hangar that will host the construction of the
third S2C 55 was empty and immaculate. It is now fully equipped with the
tools and systems that will allow the construction of the new catamaran.
“Our first task was to prepare the structural elements needed for the
construction”, explains Buholzer. “All the tools have been organized, whilst
the mould has been carefully prepared. We took this opportunity to make
several adjustments on the mould, because the next S2C 55 will be slightly
different than the two previous ones, with more carbon fibre for a stiffer
and lighter structure. In the end, this boat will weigh the same as the
previous ones but she will be fitted with more electronics at her future
owner’s request.”
The hull and deck of the new S2C 55 will be finished by Christmas. An
important work will then be done before assembling the two elements by the
end of January.
« It will then be time to work on the details, put the elements of comfort
in place, work on the hardware etc”, explains Buholzer.
The latest S2C 55 will touch the water for the first time during the summer;
she will then be tested and finally delivered to her new owner in September.
